Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Of interest to us was the information that there are several different kinds of lava:

AIR BORNE: the lava spewed forth air borne from an active volcano, including that which happens in an initial erruption and that which may follow at a future date. This is typically the loose and gassy-pocked lava that one thinks of as lava rock. The chunks may be a big as a house.

LAVA FLOW: The lava which flows from an open crater or lava tube which cools and is more solid and perhaps glassy-like.

The most recent major eruptions were in 1983. We did not see any violent displays, but Pete was lucky enough to see the red molton lava down in holes and flowing into the sea while on the helicoptor overflight.
