Devil's Island is the famous French prison island.. we are tendered ashore...
and are greeted by mooching monkeys
but the main attractions are the crumbling remnants of the prison compound...
Some buildings have been restored and/or maintained, like the church shown at the left, and the buildings now used for the hotel and bar.
And there were a couple of colorful inhabitants.......
Pete's Commentary: We had only perhaps two hours to explore the island.
In one sense, that was plenty of time to see what was there
but then again it was not enough time to relax and absorb the
solitude and historic vibrations....
As we departed, the three islands of the prison site faded into the distance -
our visit was actually to Isle Royale.....
