Afternoon Tea at Jewell Gardens


Yes, we really did have Tea and nasturtiums....

Only two years previously this entire site had been the subject of a hazardous remediation clean up by the US Federal Government due to diesel oil leaks from when the area had been used by the military. This meant starting all over again with the Gardens.

Predictably, Pete's favorite part of all this was the extensive miniature train set up.
The carrot cake was not bad either.


Giant cabbages!

We read in the paper that the blue ribbon giant cabbage for 2003 at the Alaska State Fair weighed 77.6 pounds. Entered by a 47 pound, eight year old, girl...

The growing season is short in terms of number of days, but long in terms of sunlight hours. First frost will be in September.
